X is required


What is X ?? When installing freetype - xrender - xft, where can i download this X ?

When i try to install xfree i get this:

You need to download the 'extract' (or 'extract.exe') utility
and put it in this directory.

Ive googled for extract.exe but i cant find it for linux, if someone could point me in the right direction it would be a great help!

i got xfree from ftp://ftp.xfree86.org/pub/XFree86/4.1.0/binaries/

XFree86 4.1.0 is ancient. Unless you're trying to build a lightweight system, you probably want something more recent. For easiest results, you should install the X server packages that came with your distro.
