WTF??? MPFR asks for MPFR,

something went wrong on my ubuntu 8.04.2 which i thought is reliable stable and confortable
none of these are true

when i try to install mpfr-2.4.1 it says

error while loading shared libraries: libmpfr.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

but libmpfr couldn't have been created without mpfr which i'm trying to install, so it asks for itself, which is extremely stupid
can you tell what to do?

thanx in advance

I didn't try to install it on my system,I'm just tryin' to help.
Have you read the manual.
They say:
Quote:
If MPFR has been installed to a non-standard location, then it may be necessary to set up environment variables such as ‘C_INCLUDE_PATH’ and ‘LIBRARY_PATH’, or use ‘-I’ and ‘-L’ compiler options, in order to point to the right directories. For a shared library, it may also be necessary to set up some sort of run-time library path (e.g., ‘LD_LIBRARY_PATH’) on some systems. Please read the INSTALL file for additional information.
