Wireless internet connection problem

I just had Linux Ubuntu installed. I had no problems connecting wirelessly to the internet before. Now I have to be sitting in the same room as the wireless router to connect. Is this a wireless router problem or something else?

Welcome to Linux Questions!

You've not given enough information to get a good answer.

You could connect before you installed Ubuntu or You had no problems connecting with Ubuntu and it's suddenly got worse? Were you running a different OS which was fine?
Are you using a laptop?
Have you upgraded something which has changed the way the internet connects?
If a laptop , have you tried connecting to a different router, say a Hotspot at Macdonald's or similar?

Would you like to think about what your question should really be and if you were trying to answer it, what information you would need.

Play Bonny!

I had no problem connecting before with windows. I am using an HP laptop. It is a proximity problem. I can connect but I have to be in the same room as the router!

Just a note: Many wireless cards use Broadcom chip sets. Some Broadcoms chips work fine, others have problems with Linux. It is a driver problem. I obviously don't know if that is your problem but is an avenue for investigation. If memory serves me correctly, some HP laptops use Broadcom, others use Intel. You might check and see what yours uses.

Maybe run commands:
Code:
sudo apt update
and
sudo apt upgrade
if it is a new installation. Like agillator said, could likely be a driver issue. An update may solve it ...maybe.
