Why does vim clear the screen on exit?

Hi

Is there a way to configure vim so that after exiting a file the contents remain visible on screen rather than clearing it?

This is the default on Solaris. Is there a way to do it on Linux?

Thanks in advance.

I know this is a very old topic, but I thought I'd post to help others looking for the answer. Try changing your $TERM to "linux". Works for me on rhel and ubuntu.
