why does eth01 fail on startup and delay startup?

I am running mandrake and it always fails eth01. What is that? it also takes a minute to fail it so there is a delay. Waht should I do?

eth01 is your internet. Linux is looking for the device that hooks you up to the internet (i.e. your modem or DSL line). If it can't find it, it will continue to look for it, which can take some time.

I guess you are on dialup? Most modems are WinModems which are a pain to try to get to work under Linux. Cable and DSL, now that's a different story

Hope that makes sense

you are currently surrounded by thousands who probably do know this stuff

good luck on the modem stuff. I tried and tried with no luck whatsoever. There are a few site that are devoted to using winmodems with linux. google it and have a poke around.
