Red face What Linux version to use for an old laptop (Acer Aspire 1300)?

Hello all,

I hope I am in the right section of this forum. If not, please let me know.
I am completely new to Linux.

I have an old laptop. Acer Aspire 1300. I am not 100% sure of the technical specs but it looks like this:

CPU: Duron, Athlon XP, Athlon XP-M - 1.2 GHz - RAM: 128 MB, 256 MB

I would like to install Linux on this laptop to try this OS and see how it works but I do not know which version of Linux I should use for this old laptop. There are many variants so I am a bit lost. Win XP got corrupted so I can overwrite everything on the hard disk.

What version should I use? Do I need a driver for internet LAN connectivity? If I do, where can I find it?

Right now, I just want to try Linux for internet browsing.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Try puppy linux, it's specifically designed for low spec machines.

There are other distros that would be suitable, eg. Damn Small Linux. You could also install a 'bigger' distro with a lightweight desktop eg. Xubuntu

Thanks a lot for your quick answer!
Looks like I can install it from a USB drive but I am not sure what file(s) to use.

Edit: just found a pdf on the web site. I will look into it
