Smile what "ifcfg" command does?


hi all.. i was reading some networking and geneal linux command and i just couldnt know what these do..please help:
1> ifcfg 2> Neconfig 3> Service Network start 4> dhclient

You are kidding right? I mean seriously ... are you unable to search?? Put any of the above in google and if you don't get your answer in the first 2 hits then there are issues.

i really did so.. and it wasn't helpfull.. i know google.. so try to be more helpull.. best regards

ifconfig:A text based program to configure the network interface. Type "man ifconfig" for info.

netconf :A GUI interactive interface available on Redhat 6.1

dhclient: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Client(http://linux.die.net/man/8/dhclient)

And did you also use man on any of them?

man ifcfg: ifcfg - common elements of network interface configuration

man netconfig: netconfig - network configuration database

man service: service - run a System V init script (in your example Network would be the init script and you wish to start it)

man dhclient: dhclient - Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Client
