Question What does X in top mean ?

Hello!
Short question:
If I run top on my console it shows me a command called X using 31.2 % of my mem.
What is X good for and if i don`t need it, how can I stop my computer starting it?

err.. yes. kde/gnome/twm/fvwm/balckbox/icewm/enlightenment is just a thin layer on top of X. you can delete it if you want tho... that'll be fun.

Kewpie, you aren't trying to cause trouble are you....?

Saavik, X is the server that allows you to have a GUI such as KDE etc. running. Unless you wish to only run from command line, DON'T TOUCH it!

Lightbulb yes!

That was the way I understand it!
As I don`t need KDE and want to start with init level 3 I don`t need X at all!
But thank you very much!
