However, is something wrong with my Firefox? Whichever release for all distribution I choose, 32-bit or 64-bit, no matter the version, my download doesn't start. All I get is a blank window.
This happens only with releases for all distributions; downloads for specific distribution start normally.
Can you try downloading 5.2.44 32-bit all distributions?
I did not pay attention, the "all distributions" download is the installer shell script.
On my system it displays as text in a web page. I guess it depends on how your Firefox is configured.
Since the type is set to text/plain some clients will try and display it as text and I guess blank screen is because it takes time to download that much.
Right click and select "Save Link As" to download the file (or use curl or wget with -O to download).
