/var/log/messages size

Hi
Is there any way to find out what is the maximum size for the /var/log/messages file.

there isn't normally maximum size, more often the files are rotated weekly by logrotate. check your config in /etc/logrotate.conf for details, assuming you're using logrotate on your unnamed distro (hint hint...)

It would be limited by what the kernel and filesystem can allow. But like acid mentioned, logrotate is usually setup by default to rotate this file, as you don't want or need a log file too big or with history since the beginning.
