Using Yast Online Update from a local directory to install Nvida drivers

Hi, I have gone and downloaded the drivers for my Geforce graphics card but without using YOU which I think is supposed to automatically connect and update on it's own.

According to the Nvidia installer HOWTO this is the recommended way to do it and I'm supposed to enable "Installable and Installed Patches".

I went to YAST and clicked "Online updates" but I didn't see this option. I manually entered the directory where I had put the files but it said it couldn't find the following directory ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.1/ so I manually created the directory structure but it still says it can't find the information it need.

I think I am missing some sort of index file or something. I would really not like to have to re-download the whole thing so if somebody could show me how to do the install it would be great. Thanks

Hi, instead of using YOU (YaST Online Update) try to use the module called Install/Remove Packages or Software in Yast2.
Search your nvidia package, download it and install it. After doing that, run YOU.

It's better that you remove the CD sources for installing and that you use directly your internet connection (if it's broadband :-) )

I've tried the ftp.suse.com and it doesn't work, I use this mirror located in switzerland: ftp://mirror.switch.ch/mirror/suse/suse/i386/9.1/

Hope this helps, bye Kess...
