I have been able to use usb devices through Vmware on XP. But are unable to do the same with Vista and Windows 7. It is unable to find a driver for the device. Has anybody been able to do this. Is there a third party driver that can be installed. I have Vmware tools installed. My distro is Kubuntu Jaunty and Vmware is version 1.0.7 if that makes any difference.

You need to install whatever driver is required for that USB device. It is quite possible that XP shipped with a driver for that device that Vista and Windows 7 don't ship with.
