using recompiled kernel

Hey Everyone,
I installed gentoo because i figured it would be more fun than using ubuntu + i would learn more.

At the moment im having issues setting up my sound card RE http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/alsa-guide.xml.

I went to /usr/src/linux and did make menuconfig, selected the correct modules and disabled OSS. I rebooted however this line in the guide had me wondering

***>>>EDIT<<<*** I figured out how to boot latest kernel, still same result -.-

Quote:
Now that your options are set, you can (re)compile the kernel and ALSA support for your card should be functional once you reboot into the new kernel. Don't forget to update your GRUB configuration to use the newly built kernel. You can now proceed to ALSA Utilities and see if everything is working as it should.
at the moment alsaconf detects no devices and im just guessing that im not loading the kernel right or something. My grub entry is very basic, its just:
Code:
 title=Gentoo
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/kernel root=/dev/hda3

Also my mouse buttons/scrolling aint workin!
i made a thread here however i figure its a bit noob for the boffins there :P
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-540646.html

Thanks
julius

What's a boffin?

Out of curiosity, how do you know you selected the right module for your card? Can you post up what you get from:
Code:
/sbin/lspci
alsaconf will usually work if the correct module is probed for your hardware. After probing the hardware, check dmesg's output:
Code:
dmesg
To see if it recognizes your card at that point.

Good luck!

Cool

Hey
I solved it a while ago :P It turns out i forgot to do make, make modules_install then copy the image.

Those gentoo docs could do with a bit of polishing eheh :P
