USB device slackware 9

I have a slack 9 machine that doesn't recognize my flash drive. it says something about the device not accepting the address.

any way around this?

also, why doesn't the root user login show all of the logins? i was previously logged in as someone else, and then I logged in as root, and now all of the other users don't show up.

what am i missing here?

thanks!
Mark

#ls /dev/hd* (slackware9 is old)
#mkdir /abc
#mount -t vfat /dev/hdc1 /abc (if the drive is hdc)

In Slackware 9 (I used it for a long time, 2003-2004)
it is practical to add a line in /etc/fstab to have easy access
every time :
/dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1 vfat noauto, user 0 0
(and remember to hit enter at end of line)
Make a dir /mnt/sda1/
And you can make an icon on the desktop: rightclick,
> create new > harddisk.... and choose sda1 in the dialog.
