untar a .tar file in LXLE (installed)

Hi

I'm trying to untar a .tar file in LXLE Linux 18.04.3 64 bit
with the command (root): tar -zxvf gscite514.tar and the response is:

root@alain-B85M-HD3:/home/alain/Downloads# tar -zxvf gscite514.tar

gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

root@alain-B85M-HD3:/home/alain/Downloads#

Instructions from here
https://www.scintilla.org/SciTEDownload.html

What's wrong (for a newbie like me) ?

Thks

Try leaving out the "z" in the command, as it's a *.tar, not a *.tgz or a *.tar.gz From the man page.

Quote:
-z, --gzip, --gunzip, --ungzip
filter the archive through gzip
