Understanding find manpage

Reading the find manpage on find I was wondering what the meaning of "stats" is in the following snippet from that manpage.

GNU find frequently stats files during the processing of the command
line itself, before any searching has begun.

'stats' is saying that it performs a call to stat() for that file. stat() returns information like last-modified time, permissions, etc. about a file.
