I am trying to install ununtu 10.04 but it fails every time with a message which flashes on and off with a message -
mp bios bug no dhcp client installed
at least I think that is what it says, it is on and off so fast.
I have used Ubuntu for around three months but I also have to use windows for my work and this first started when I upgraded to win 7 and the pc gradually slowed down and became impossible to use. It also refuses to install.
I suspect that I probably picked up a bug during installation of win 7 and new memory. I am having to type this on my wife's laptop. Any ideas how to get mine up and unning?

The memory might be faulty but, if pronounced, the pc usually beeps its head off. Perhaps try resetting the bios, the cmos might have picked up malware. Will it run a live cd?

I would remove Ubuntu and rewrite the MBR for windoze 7 then concentrate on getting it to work properly, after that install Ubuntu making sure you have understood and installed a good partitioning scheme...you may have a screwed partition table.

It seems to be a hardware issue (nothing related to Win7): probably related to the new memory - you can use the memtest from the Ubuntu LiveCD (pressing any key while booting and choosing "Test memory" item) to view it.
