unable to get printer (even tho drivers are installed) to work with Xandros

I am an old person who has been using windows for mucho years. I decided to try Linux and am most pleased, but have one problem. I downloaded the drivers for an HP 1020 laserjet...the drivers appear to be installed but when I try and print I get the message that the printer is idle. When I first plugged the printer in the usb port I was asked which action that I wished to take, but nothing appeared to be appropriate. I deleted and reinstalled the driver as specified and the results are the same. Thanks for any help

Xandros is probably using the cups print system. Open a browser, and in the URL, enter http://localhost:631 to get into the cups admin system.

Click on Manage printers. Do you see a printer listed?

If no, click on 'add printer' to add a printer (even though you have installed drivers, you still have to configure it).

If yes, click on 'manage printer' to go through the steps of configuration to see if it has an enable/disable setting that needs to be set to enable.

The HP 1020 is not supported "Out of the box".
You'll need a driver from here:
