Question Unable to compile (make, make install):need linux-headers

Dell 700m, MEPIS 3.4-3RC, Dual Boot WinXP, KDE 3.4, Kernel 2.6.15-1-586tsc

I am trying to load a Intel PRO 2200BG Wireless driver: I am following these instructions http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=13576/

I have checked what kernel I have. It is as stated above.
But when I try to install linux-headers for this kernel I get an error
Code:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package linux-headers-2.6.15-1-586tsc
As a result i am unable to make and compile the new driver. Acn someone guide me here.
I have posted in an earlier post on the MEPIS forums that my wireless is not working, but here is what is wrong:

The hardware seems to have been recognized (KWifiManager and OS Center) can both see this, and only under root login can KWifiManager scan signals. The problem is that it unable to connect (ie lock the signal). My hotkey fn+F2 also does not light up.

I checked in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware/ and the ipw2200 file is not there; so I figured that the wireless card was not 100% detected???? I am therefore trying to install the proper driver.

Sorry to burden you all,
SL

You didn't install kernel source, install it from the CD if it contains one or try out kernel version from

$uname -a

& download the appropriate sources from MEPIS or kernel.org

MEPIS CD seems to not to give the option to choose what to install, it installs evrything in the background. I tried checking the

$ uname -a
Linux mepis1 2.6.15-1-586tsc #2 PREEMPT Wed Jan 4 19:01:57 EST 2006 i686 GNU/Linux

How do I download the appropriate sources from MEPIS or kernel.org?

And also I think my Wireless card has been detected during installation, but is unable to lock on to a signal. See this post:
http://www.mepislovers.org/modules/n...=13893&forum=9

So it may be that I do not need to install these drivers right???

Thanks again for the help.

Frankly speaking I am not too sure about Mepis & its variants. However kernel source for Mepis are available at:
http://www.mepislovers-wiki.org/mepislovers/downloads/

Unfortunately kernel source for your kernel i.e. "2.6.15-1-586tsc" hasn't be uploaded till date on that website.

I would recommend you to wait till someone actually uploads that kernel. A better way would be to switch to a proper distribution like Mandriva/Suse so that you readily made packages available as well kernel sources.

Another option would be to actually download latest kernel from www.kernel.org & and reads FAQ at:
http://www.kernel.org/faq/
You may also require to download additional dependencies for that kernel version i.e. modutils & all other stuff. In last kernel compilation is too complicated for someone not too familiar with Linux, it took me 12 times when I was first able to compile and successfully run the kernel,so ultimately its your call
(i)Switch to new distro
(ii)Compile a new kernel yourself
(iii)Wait for someone to upload a source built specifically to your present release.
