Question Ubuntu New User (Audio Issues)

Hi, Have made the jump to Linux after years of love / hate relationship with Windows. Anyway, trying to make my ham computer talk to Signal Link Remote Sound Card that connects to Ham Radio Box Icom IC-7900 radio. Can not get Ubuntu Audio to talk to FLDIGI software. Am trying to use Port Audio. I wonder if I should be using PULSE audio. Any help out there. Tnx Rich KQ6EF

Hi Rich...

First off, Welcome here!

Now, if I may... a few questions that when answered will help others help you:

- Operating System: Ubuntu (already answered)

- How are you making the physical connection between your computer and the device (remote sound card) on your Icom radio?

- Do you know and can you tell us your sound card information (hardware specs, etc.) being used in your computer?

- Does audio work normally on your computer with Ubuntu?

Others will have some more detailed requests for you. Be patient. The more we know; the quicker we can all figure this out for you.

Regards,

~Eric

Thanks for replay.

The signalink is a remote sound card that interfaces to the Computer via USB cable and is direct wired to the user radio. Here is link on the product:
http://www.tigertronics.com/slusbmain.htm

There are many different software packages that talk to the Signalink box and interface with the users radio. The one I am trying to use in called "FLDIGI"

The issue is when I plug the Signal Link into my Ubuntu Computer, it shows up in the system folder, under sound as input " PCM2904 PCM Audio Codec" and output "PCM2904 PCM Audio Codec" As info it shows up twice under the input / output labeled "Analog Input / Analog output & Digital Input(S/PDIF) / Digital Output (S/PDIF).

When I run the software FLDIGI, when I try to configure audio input/output, I see and select under output (USB Audio Codec(hw-3.0) but under Capture select, no USB Audio Codec are displayed, Choices are (default, pulse, spdif, sysdefault, HDA Intel ACC888 alt analog) I have tried all the choices, only one that works about 50% of time is default.

Wish I understood Linux better to trouble shoot the audio issue.
Tnx for help

Also, if you have not already done so, install the Pulse Audio Mixer (pavucontrol). It gives you much more granular control over auto input/output streams and devices than most volume control applications. It's in the repos.

Hmm... Sadly, I'm not familiar with newer Ubuntu (with systemD) these days, so I'm not going to be of any help to you here. There are quite a few other folks on this board who are most definitely up-to-date on Ubuntu. I'm sure someone will chime in here soon.

Luck with it!

~Eric
