There is a package called 'ubuntu-restricted-extras' which includes all the codecs you need for playing audio/video files, encrypted DVDs, adobe flashplayer,...even Java.
If you don't have internet, then below is the link to a site that says it will help in installing these codecs offline. You may have to download the package from cybercafe and run the script. But use the script at your own risk.
