Hey everyone, completely new but learning. What I have done:
Using Mac OSx
Installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a VMware VM. Network setting Bridge (autodetect)
Installed LAMP using the following tutorial with minor modifications to get it up and running:
http://www.howtoforge.com/installing...ntu-12.10-lamp
If important I will spell out what I did that was different from the tutorial in order to get the phpmyadmin to work.
The server works from what I can tell.
I installed an SSH program in Ubuntu using the following command, to allow for and SSH client to interact with the server, at least that's what I'm assuming it does.
"sudo apt-get install ssh"
I can log into the server through terminal using "ssh <username>@<serverIP>" and entering my PW.
Using Fugu I can connect to the server through a SFTP connection, but when I select a PHP test script to upload it says I do not have the permissions.
When I try to connect using the SSH tunnel it asks for the following: <What I entered>
Create Tunnel To: <serverIP>
Service or Port: <22> (what the sshd_config says it "listens for")
Local Port: <1025> (I read somewhere use anything above 1024)
Tunnel Host: <my name's macbook pro> (I'm not sure if that's my computer name, but I assume that this computer is hosting the tunnel)
Username: <Ubuntu Username> (I don't know of another I could use)
Port: <left blank> (How many ports do you need??)
When I enter that information Fugu simply stays in a state of "connecting".
So my question is this, how do I get the tunnel to work? Or if you know of another/better way of uploading files to the server, that would be just as great.
Also if you know of a good site that explains the basics of servers and their operation that would be wonderful!
Let me know if you need more info.
Thanks!
