Trying to run InstallSQLiteStudio-3.2.1 on Chrombook - permission denied

Hello,

I have a Chromebook R13 and I have just started learning linux.

I have downloaded the SQLiteStudio file installSQliteStudio-3.2.1 for linux

Trying to run "chmod +x installSQLiteStudio-3.2.1"
error: Operation not permitted.

I could use some help on solving this and getting SQLiteStudio to run on my Chromebook. I am not able to get this to execute.

Tom

chmod requires root privileges. Try putting sudo in front of it. Some chromebooks allow the use of sudo without a password, but the implementation varies. If asked for a password, you'll have to figure that out.

Not necessarily.
Simply making a file executable should NOT require root privileges (unless that's something that works fundamentally different on ChromeOS).

What is that file? A shell script? An executable (like a Windows installer)? Issuing:
Code:
$ file installSQLiteStudio-3.2.1
will give you an idea.

Where is file located? Permissions on the directory might be a problem (low probability of this, though, since you were able to place the file there in the first place. Still, IMHO, worth checking.

I'd suggest simply trying "bash ./installSQLiteStudio-3.2.1" if making that file executable isn't working but I suspect you'll run into other permissions-related roadblocks if a simple "chmod +x filename" is resulting in an error message.

Bottom line: more information about your environment would be helpful.

If this is a chromebook converted entirely to Linux, it's one thing, but if it's still running ChromeOS and the above is being done in the terminal there, it's another. I agree that more information is necessary.
