transfering all users from one server to another


I want to transfer my all 500 user fom one server to another. what will eb the procedure.

Will I create a tar file of my home directory and then ftp that file to my new server..

pls help me with the proper tar and untar command...

cause I know
tar -xvf home.tar home/

is that alright..?

Copy the files /etc/passwd /etc/shadow /etc/group and /etc/sudoers
to the new server first.

Then take a back up as u said

tar -zcvpf home.tgz /home/

This tgz file can be untarred in the other server from root directory.
tar -zxvpf home.tgz -C /
