terminal not responding to password

I just got Ubuntu about a week ago. I went to applications and then add/remove. I planned on adding the blue tooth package. It acts like it is going to work then give me an error of:

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

So i opened a terminal and ran it...nothing. Then I put sudo in front of it. It asked for my password. When I went to type in my password anything I typed didn't show up, almost as if my keyboard were disconnected. And to make sure it wasn't my keyboard or anything I repeated the processes same results.
Does anyone know what to do? Help?

Your password isn't supposed to show up. Run the command (prefixed with sudo), enter your password, press enter, go.
