Unhappy Switched to automatic log-in: Password stopped working!

Hello guys I have a lil problem here I hope somebody can help me out. So i tried to disable my laptop running on v11.10 from asking me for my password whenever the screen comes up. Ok so I went to system settings> User Accounts and from there under "Automatic Log-in" I ticked "on" then under "Password" I selected "none". After I did the tweaks I reboot my laptop and it worked however I am unable to download everything now because I constantly get the error msg "your authentication attempt was unsuccessful. please try again" whenever I put in my password. I tried going back to User Accounts to undo the changes but It say's I need to unlock the dialog to make such changes using the password that isn't working now. So can somebody pls give me some advice I really have no clue as to how to get around this I tried my keyring but it didn't help. I might wanna reformat my laptop instead as I really don't have alot of options right now but would like to avoid the hassle If I can if there's a much simpler way to solve this.

Check the password back, you need to tell the system which is your password for some programs to work. And to do the changes you have to log as root.
