SuSE standard server 8

Hi, I don't get why it says for x86 servers? Does this mean I have to use a specific processor?

x86 is the lingo for Intel architecture, IBM-PC computers. Mainly intel and amd processors. Other architectures can be sun-sparc, powerpc, s390, etc....

ie) OLD systems were 286, 386, 486, 486DX, etc
hence the x86 architecture
you're probably running 586 or 686

the suse server 8 enterprise have several other ones that support itanium and opteron. So I'm guessing those you have to use that specifici processor. So just as final though, x86 is basically all those processors out there
