Angry SuSE linux 9.0 Kernel panic


after installing suse on a dell poweredge 1400 I have encountered a problem with the boot up process of suse 9.0. I tried many thing and have reinstalled several times with different modules and still get the same message “Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 8:02” how can I go about fixing this or what steps do I need to take. I am providing as much info as I can in hardware below

2 Pentium possessor’s at 800, MHz
52x cdrom –IDE
SCSI Dell Power Edge Expandable RAID Controller 2/DC, running 4 ultra 160 hard drives in stripe mode 0
512 MB of ecc memory running at 133 MHz
BIOS VER. 1.4A

can you give some information about your bootloader?
Apparently you've made a mistake while configuring it.
