SuSE 9.1 Stalls on Install

I'm trying to install SuSE 9.1 on a system that is running fine on 9.0.

The install stalls/fails during the harware detection.

What I have done to try and get it going:

disabling ACPI
trying safe install
disconnecting and replacing a wireless USB mouse with a PS/2 mouse
disconnecting an external USB 2.0 drive
another set of install disks

Nothing helps. I'm sure I've left out some system info that is probably needed, but the 9.0 works fine (and is still working fine) so I'm thinking it's something particualr to 9.1

I'd still consider myself a Newbie but I have successfully installed and worked with RedHat and SuSE installs in the past. I'm week on the command-line entries Blame that on Mr. Gates.

Welcome to LQ. What specific error messages are you getting? It's a little unclear from your description exactly what problem you are encountering, other than the fact that the installation hangs. Are there any specific error messages being displayed, and if so what are they? -- J.W.

the screen is full of text but the last two lines are:

>>> SUSE LINUX INSTALLATION PROGRAM v1.6.19 (c) 1996-2004 SUSE LINUX AG <<<

Starting hardware detection...

- (flashing cursur)

That's it. It stops and won't let it go any further. I let it sit for an hour just in case something was slow. The curcur on the very last line flashes but nothing is happening.
