SuSE 9.0 connect to SBC DSL HELP!!!!

I have read past posts on trying to get SuSE to connect with SBC Yahoo DSL--I must be all thumbs because I can't get the net to work. It works just fine in XP.
YaST tells me that it does not recognize the ethernet card in the top half of the screen and there is a description of the card in the bottom half of that same screen. So I am not sure if the system even recognizes the card. HELP!
I would like a step by step process for making the connection work.
Thank you
BHT
