Download a decent linux flavor, since you look like you're a newbie to linux, download redhat, it comes with apache software if you have it install as a server, make sure you specify to allow the http service to pass through IPtables. once redhat is installed, upon starting X the service should start automatically. your webroot should be in /var/www/htdocs
if you want to host you're own domain, you'll need 2 servers, both for nameservers. or you can point a free DNS to your IP.
keep in mind, if you're running an NT type windows; windows 2000, windows XP, then you can just get apache for windows.

i was a student when i ran windows 2000 advanced server :P
