Step by step assistance on Linux

Has someone come across a downloadable step by step guide to Mandrake? All the "manuals" and "howto's" are difficult to understand for someone not used to Linux. Very often reference is made to the "command line" but I don't even know where to find that! I need a very simple step by step guide and would appreciate the help.
