I have windows XP and Linux Unbuntu on one pc.
When I start the pc and choose to boot Linux, then I get a screen like DOS. How can I start the graphical interface of Linux?
Just to expand on the previous post, Ubuntu should have got you to a graphical login unless there is a problem with your graphics card. Maybe let us know what graphics card so we can point you in the right direction if startx doesn't work - it might need manually reconfiguring (which isn't that hard - honest!).
I tried it and it didn't work.
At the boot screen I choose to boot:"Unbuntu, kernel 2.6.12-9-386(recovery mode)" then there was a screen like DOS says: root@ben(my name):~# so there I typed startx but then it said: command not found.
My Graphic card is a: ATI Radeon 9800 SE from Saphire
I'm not good at English sorry for that:P and i don't know anything about Linux.
If you choose "Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.12-9-386(recovery mode)" then you are booting into just that, a recovery mode. This mode will not start your graphical interface because it is intended for diagnostic and maintenance work when there is something wrong with the system. If you have a boot entry that just says "Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.12-9-386" then try that one instead.
