I am not sure exactly what you mean by "sound recorder" but Audacity can record sounds and save them to a variety of formats. With it you can record your own sounds, manipulate them later all sorts of things. I even made an audio CD with my wife using song tracks and a microphone and mixer. It is a great program.

If you want to give it a try it is in the Ubuntu repositories just do a
Code:
 sudo apt install audacity
to get it.

I use Audacity almost every day. Might be overkill but feature rich.

Guess it might depend on what you want to record too.
Plenty of other programs in linux available one could look at. An example. https://itsfoss.com/record-streaming-audio/

Most of this still works https://askubuntu.com/questions/4895...rder-for-14-04

audacity, arecord, rec (sox), ffmpeg, mplayer ... the list goes on.
Not even speaking of higher level software that includes this functionality.

Too vague question, really.
