Sound only with mpg123, not through GUIs

I have just got a dell cpi233, and it came with a crystal 4232 sound card. I am able to get sound if I run sndconfig. However, there are problems. Cds will play, but mp3s will only play through mpg123, not the GUIs. They play the file, I can see the meters rise and the location bar advance, but nothing through the speakers. Also, I get the following error when I boot:

modprobe: Can't locate module sound-slot-1
modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-1-0

However, my modules.conf file writes it as sound-slot-0. So I have to re-run sndconfig after each boot.

Here's my modules.conf file:

alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias usb-controller usb-uhci
alias sound-slot-0 cs4232
post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
options sound dmabuf=1
alias synth0 opl3
options opl3 io=0x388
options cs4232 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=0 dma2=0 mpuio=0x330 mpuirq=7

Any ideas about how to get this straight, use my GUIs mpg players, etc?

Thanks!
