F***. I installed Red Hat 9 and I cannot get sound, what do I do? Why is so hard to get basic things from this Linux. My board is Springdale Abit IS7-E with integrated 6-channel sound.

Welcome to LQ.

Do you know what chips are being used? If you boot into Windows and find all the details of your soundchips then that'll help.

Oh, and it is not hard to get basic things from Linux... different maybe, but not hard. You just haven't learnt how yet, that's all. It'll come - we all started at the beginning somewhere.

download a driver and install it, that's all i can think of if redhat won't autodetect

i couldn't get redhat to autodetect my sound and is the only reason i moved to mandrake 9.1 (uses a newer kernel)

RedHat comes with a program called sndconfig that works quite well. I'm not sure if it is installed by default.
