i've had linux for 2 days and im having problems getting my sound to work on my slackware box, i don't really know the sound card that im using and i can't really find it on the web, i do however, have compaq presario 5050 with everything factory except the packardbell moniter. i guess my question is: whice sound driver do i install.
from what i remember and looked up, i think i have some type of aureal sound card, i remember a aureal audio installed on the preset of the computer disc.
Computer specs:
celeron 333mhz
128mb ram-oops forgot to mention that i did put more ram in (factory is 64)
8gigs
linux native and swap partitions only
reply if you need anymore information, i will keep a close watch on the forum till problem is solved...thanks =D
so far in my short search you have "An Aureal A3-D audio card with 360-degree positioning delivers exceptional three-dimensional (3-D) sound through only two speakers, and an integrated 3-D Rage LT Pro video card" as copied from a web site.
Sound card is built into the motherboard best I can determine.
well, you pinpointed the video card exactly, sounds like you got the audio card too, you have any suggestions on how to get my sound working with that card?
after taking a nice long sleep i remembered that when i was on windows, ess technology continued supporting my drivers, or at least thats what microsoft xp gave me as a driver and it worked nicely
Run sndconfig, as root. Then make sure the permissions and/or group setting for /dev/dsp, /dev/audio, /dev/mixer* are such that your user name can write to those devices.
I found my soundcard, at last, this is what it is and i still can't get it to work correctly. When im done with opensound im going to cp the log here.
Generic ESS ES1869 based soundcard or motherboard (non-PnP)
Now you can try alsa, if you want to get away from the open sound system. Just download, configure --with-cards=ess1968 make
make install
modprobe snd_ess1968 (or th like)
