Question Software Operating System similar to Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (X86; 32 bit;)

I want to get rid of Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate (x86; 32bit) and install your OS Software that is similar. I Have an HP Pavillion [M8300f] Media Center Desktop PC with AMD Anthlon(tm) 64x2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3.00Ghz; 500GB[expandable to 6TB Raid] on two Drives with a 500GB External Backup. HP Photosmart 6180C all-in-One Printer; Linksys (Cisco) Router[WRT54G2V1]. I am not familiar with your Operating Systems and would appreciate your sharing. doc7@npgcable.com. Thank you for your time, as I know it is valuable. I have checked your different web sites, but am still not sure what Software to Download. Using Kasperky Pure Security; also have a Home Network. Using Kaspersky Pure Security; also have a Home Network set up. Newbie. Have also checked out the Linux Compatible Hardware List.

1. what sort of things do you want to use the system for?
2. have a look at any of the top 10 or so at www.distrowatch.com
3. checkout the (hundreds of) other threads that have asked basically the same qn.

There's no such thing as best (generally). Its your choice.

If you want an MS like experience, try Mint or Ubuntu to start with.
Remember, it's all free, so you can try as many different versions (known as distros) as you like

HTH & welcome to LQ
