SMART tools and root emails
hi,
I installed fc3 on 3or4 year old laptop a few days ago and noticed a bunch of messages from smartd in root's mail. I've never used SMART tools and I'm really not sure what to do with the information. After looking at the man page for smartctl, I did a "smartctl -a /dev/hda" and it reported:
"SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: PASSED" but there were some errors listed under that like the messages in my inbox.
The messages in my mail box indicate that there are problems with some sectors. It is my understanding that disk clusters and/or sectors do go bad from time to time and that modern disks will mark them as bad. So do I have to be worried about this hard drive?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Listed below, in order, is:
