Slackware 10.2 pinging issue

Hello, I've added my Slackware 10.2 box to my home network. My network consists of a DLink DI604 router + DL DSS-5+ switch + windoze box running XP. I have Sprint Broadband Direct wireless internet connection, my ISP being earthlink.

I'm getting 'unknown host' when trying to access the internet from my slack box. Here is the issue I need help with, when I ping for example 127.0.0.1 or my router 192.168.0.1 it keeps reply pinging for ever! How do i get it to stop? Is there a procedure to set the icmp_seq ttl to stop at say 4?

Please help

PS Slackware is really cool!!

Yes, try ping -c 4 192.168.0.1 or alternatively you can just kill it with Ctrl-C...
