It probably ran out of space. Did you just try and do a full install?
If so try again and only choose the packages that you will need.
I have it running on a pentuim 166 with 48Mb of ram. with a very basic setup (ie no X) and it squeezes into just under 256Mb of harddrive space.

I format the partition before installing ant it still stops.no cd or hdd activity.when it runs out of space it gives error messages.
i've noticed something while detecting the harware:
VP_IDE not 100% native mode ; will probe irqs later
...
hda: IRQ probe failed(0xfef8)
...
hda: task_no_data_intr : status 0x51 {DriveReady seek complete error}
hda: task_no_data_intr : status 0x51 {Drive status error}

are this messages normal?

I have seen the bottom drive seek errors on a system before, i cured it when i recompiled my kernel.

try using fdisk to delete the partitions, it seems a bit more "brutal" at removing old windoze partitions, then use cfdisk to create the new ones.

A full install is around 3gb btw

yes, maybe too much even?
can you not find cheap ram to double 32 to 64 Mb?
It would make a big difference

Maybe a bad sector? Maybe run DSL in text mode and do
an e2fsck -force. Unlikely though...

Try vector if you ever have a chance, it fits all on ~1Gb,
and can do well with old hardware
Slack sounds very good anyway
