Shorewall Installation (help)

iv searched all over with no results, hope you can help!

i have one computer that conects to the internet through a USB modem (ADSL.

now just typed "urpmi shorewall" in a konsole as root to install

result was =

[root@localhost john]# urpmi shorewall
To satisfy dependencies, the following 2 packages are going to be installed (1 MB):
iptables-1.2.9-8mdk.i586
shorewall-2.0.17-1.1.102mdk.noarch
Is this OK? (Y/n) y
Please insert the medium named "Installation CD1 " on device [/dev/hdc]
Press Enter when ready...
*then i inserted disk CD1*
ftp://ftp.lip6.fr/pub/linux/distribu...mdk.noarch.rpm
installing shorewall-2.0.17-1.1.102mdk.noarch.rpm iptables-1.2.9-8mdk.i586.rpm from /var/cache/urpmi/rpms
Preparing... #############################################
1/2: iptables #############################################
2/2: shorewall #############################################
[root@localhost john]#

after this is done i cant conect to the internet, then after typing "service shorewall stop" it stops shorewall and internet conection is established.
Access to /etc/shorewall/ is denied at all times (inaccessible) even in root

i can give more infomation if requiered if you are willing to help

Have you checked the shorewall website for a potential problem while using it with Mandriva (mandrake). I was on the shorewall site today and there the cautionary flags to using it with Mandriva (Mandrake). I don't use mandriva so I didn't read through but go to

www.shorewall.net --> Documentation

to find out more.

Tux,

well what i have seen is that if u install shorewall by mandrake packages then u need to see if it autimatically configures some settings in shorewall

so i prefer each time to install that by source, just takes the same amt . of time in this case

regards
