Hi guys, I've got 2 Linux boxes - both running FC3. On box 1, I've created a samba share of my "music" folder. It has full read/write permissions for all users. On box 2, using the smbmount command, I create a mount point called /mnt/music. This all works just fine. However, the permissions for /mnt/music on box 2 are rwx only for the owner, which is root. I need to have write permissions for other users, but if I try to set the permissions by typing:
# chmod a+w /mnt/music
it doesn't change anything. (it doesn't give an error, but it also doesn't change any permissions)

I've tried using the rw option in smbmount, but that doesn't make a difference either. Any ideas?? I'm fairly new to Linux so I'm sure there's something obvious I'm missing. Thanks!

You have to set the username of the owning user and/or group on mount by appending:

So long as reading and writing are permitted on the share from the server side, you should be allowed to make whatever changes you want from the client side as the user or group member of the specified group.
