Unhappy servelet mapping in jetty server

am trying to edit a website in ubuntu.
webserver : jetty server
Spring framework

index.html page is in ./web/

from this, links are provided to webpages in ./web/WEB_INF/template/ using servelet mapping. i want to add my own html page in template and link it from index.html.. but servelet mapping is creating errors..
i tried editing web.xml..
am not getting a clear idea on the directory structure of spring framework..
can anyone help me.. thanx
