sendmail to postfix - no more mail!

I just used the "redhat_switch_mail" command to switch my MTA from sendmail to postfix. Now, my mail server is no longer serving mail!

I'm using fc1. Do, I need to keep Procmail configured? Doesn't matter, still don't have mail serving.

what else do I need to do after I run the switch script?

Thanks,
Tom

What about the usual modifications on my_networks, my_hostname, my_destination ,.... parameters within main.cf ?
Have you heard about them ? Sounds likely to be the cause.

I edited /etc/postfix/main.cf and set all theses variables and maybe even a few more...

I'm running imap and pop3 services as imap.ooorah.net and pop.ooorah.net. Do I need to set any variables in main.cf for these? Do I need to set any variables for smtp?

I'm not able to receive or send mail now.

Interesting twist... I discovered that I can no longer ssh into my box remotely. Prior to the switch, this was not a problem... Is there something that got changed in the redhat-switch-mail command that could effect my ability to remotely login?

Thanks,
ooorah

Hi:

I've checked your smtp server at imap.ooorah.net, and I could find out it is accepting messages:

pablob@medusa /home/pablob$ telnet imap.ooorah.net 25
Trying 70.88.130.29...
Connected to imap.ooorah.net (70.88.130.29).
Escape character is '^]'.
220 ooorah.net ESMTP Postfix (2.0.11)
HELO mail.wanadoo.es
250 ooorah.net
MAIL FROM: kk@yahoo.es
250 Ok
RCPT TO: root@imap.ooorah.net
250 Ok
DATA
354 End data with <CR><LF>.<CR><LF>
Testing your incoming box for linuxquestions.org
.
250 Ok: queued as A157937CAE
QUIT
221 Bye
Connection closed by foreign host.

From the resulting session you can see my message was at least queued. You'll have to find out where it goes. Check within /var/spool/postfix/ , maybe there you can find the sequence number A157937CAE with my message.

As you say you can't also send, you must be receiving an error within any log file; check under /var/log/mail/ .

What about firewalling.

SSH ? As far as I know there's no relation within ssh & postfix. I don't use RHat so I can't help you with what goes on with redhat-switch-mail.

Thanks for taking a look....

My ISP changed my IP address. It took me awhile to get the domain setup with the new IP address.

I also had the wrong definition for the home_mail variable....

As usual more than one problem happening at the same time...

note that if you are checking mail as root, root's mail does not go to root in postfix. Usually a chenge has to be made in that aliases file.

Granted root's mail shud be forwarded to a different user, but not everyone heeds that advice.
