Sending mail between users

I would like to set my redhat workstation up so that I can send mail from one user to another without sending it out over the internet and back. I know this must be possible, but can't find a way to do it.

I tried using the "mail" command from the shell, but the message doesn't actually go to the user I try to send it to.

Do I need to set up a mail server? Can someone point me to a good tutorial?

Take a look at this howto:

You are after sendmail, which works well on local networks... If they are all *nix.
