There are many backup solutions, especially where the target save area is disk based.
Some are complex network based solutions and some are very simple.
I use a simple method that just writes out the incremental changes and is able to do restores using standard GNU utilities, in the event that the backup program is no longer available for any reason.
i.e. The backups are readable (with a bit of effort).
But a backup "solution" that can "accidentally" delete your files isn't worth having.
