Samba Advice

Hi All

I am still new to Linux and trying to setup samba on my centos box by following the tutorial http://samba.netfirms.com/

After following the setup of my smb.conf and adding the users and files as per the tutorial I come across a few problems.

If I browse my home folder, music or everyone folder i get for example \\samba\music is not assessable you may not have permissions to use this network response. If i browse the apps folder I get a pop up asking for a user name and password.

Can anyone shed any light on what I am doing wrong here.

Many thanks

Hi,

I'll just look into my crystal ball! Wait, I forgot that 'jeremy' requested the return because the crystal ball tends to crack thus providing a blurry view. Seriously, I'll just look over your shoulder and look at the screen but your crowding the keyboard thus I can't really get the information necessary to aid in diagnosis of the problem.

Post your '/etc/samba/smb.conf'.

'SMB-HOWTO' would be a good source.

Just a few links to aid you to gaining some understanding;

onebuck is right (besides the ironic sentences )
Post your smb.conf. Also, it's not clear from where are you trying to access shared folders (Is it a Windows box? If not, give us also the command you're using to access the folders).
Although I've never tried CentOS, I'm wondering if you might try applications like gadmin-samba. If you don't mind to have a GUI interface in your server and you don't planning to become a samba expert, it's a good choice to deal with samba configuration.

Hi,

It's ironic that you don't see the jest.
