Ryan's Suse 9.1 PRO Questions of the Day (HDD mounting & soundcard)

I'mnot 100% new to linux, but Suse is NOT my first choice by any means. However, my PC wouldn't load any of the other distros or OSes I tried prior (Slack 9 and current, Mandrake 10, FC2, Windows Xp and 2003) I don'tknow what's up with this thing, but my Suse discs seem to read fine while others won't load properly....

Anyway, all that aside I have a fully working Suse 9.1 PRO install up and running and now have configuration questions that I've never dealt with.

Question #1.
I have my Fat32 HDs mounted no problem. (Still need Windows in the future for some OS specific apps but am sick of it on a daily basis.) Is there a way to get a shortcut to them on user accounts desktop rather then need to navigate into /windows/C?

Question #2
Is there an easy way to configure the sound on this PC. Frankly I'm not even sure what sound card it has since it came with little documentation. (Custom built PC) I would think it should auto detect both the card and the onboard sound, but it misses the card. Thoughts.

Thanks in advance for any info.

try
Code:
cd ~/Desktop
ln -s /windows/C

Well you will need to know what kind of card it is, see if you can find anything using "/sbin/lspci"

The easiest way in SusE to configure a card is trough the YAST tool.

Log In as root
Start yast2

e.g. open a console window and then: yast2
Select "Hardware" from the list on the right side and then the "Sound" Icon from the left side. It's a pretty straight forward process.

About the shortcut:

a) One way is like described by Demonbane

b) Alternative: Click the right mouse Button anywhere on the Desktop.
A fly-out menu will appear. Select there: "Create New" -> "Device" -> "Hard Disc Device"
In the "General" Tab you may enter a name for the disk and choose an Icon that represents the device when mounted.
In the "Device" Tab you can select a th edevice and mountpoint from a drop-down list and also select an Icon that
represents the device when unmounted.

In the persmissons tab you can select different options, liek ownership and r/w/e permissions.
