root on LVM


Hi

i have made my / partition on LVM.

i want to know whether its a good idea to have / in LVM for production servers.

I personally don't think you need it. You should not have to expand root. Give it enough for the base system and put other directories, home, var, ... on the LVM. I just feel it's an extra layer of risk for not much gain if you plan ahead properly.

My $AU0.02 is probably worth less, but if I was a LVM user I would be happy to put the root on a LV.
Not the /boot note.

But ... I'm not a LVM user, and I'm big on backups anyway.

i have / partition on LVM for a pretty long time & have been extending it as per need arise & i have never got any problems.

i just want to know whether its a good idea to have it on production servers.

Very common on corporate zSeries machines.
